Spring!

Well I'm currently convincing myself that I should not feel bad for my failure to post photos almost daily. I guess I just don't make the time to do so. Oh well... I still love taking shots and that is what counts. Having not really made to much progress with sorting out good photos from my archives I will move on to some new photos now.

Before I post any futher I should say that I have been shooting in RAW format ever since I cleaned out my photo library and when I export the photos the jpegs look muted, dull, etc.... I apologize for this.

What would a post titled 'Spring!' be without at least one flower shot?!?

I took this photo to show the difference in size between a 1 yoke chicken egg and a 2 yoke chicken egg. I'm hoping you can guess which one is which.

mmm... gotta love sprawl!

The contraption that some of the Grackels are behind is a open sided cage to keep our cats from the birds we feed. Half crazy, half genuis.

I was at a private party in the top floor of the 4 Seasons in Toronto this past weekend. This was the view.

Almost Done

As I should have expected, backing up my photo library took a ridiculously long time and contained some unexpected twists. Has anyone tried to burn a DVD in iPhoto with more than 5000 images? Apparently it can't be done (the drive does not respond properly). I now get the joy of rebuilding my library with all my favs instead of everything so it may be a little while before I post older photos.

Here are two recent ones:
Photos like this usually happen on a Sunday when my father and I meet at the coffee pot and I happen to have a camera on hand.

This is my cat when she over heats while lying in front the fireplace. I liked the curves in her professional flop and wanted them documented.

An Essential Headache

I'm sorting and backing up my entire photo collection currently. It is a complete pain, as well as never ending. But I have to do it. I'm running low on hard drive space. I know this is just an excuse to not be posting, but it is rather valid in this circumstance. Anyway, I'm going to post two shots and that will be it until this time consuming task is complete.

This is a tree leaning over the creek on our property. As a kid I always wanted to tie a swing onto it but it is not structurally sound. Plus the water is near freezing all year round.
I ajusted the white balance on this one to make it warmer.

This is out the back door of my old Montreal pad. I can't tell if there is a person on the top balcony of the white building because the original shot is only 1200x1600.

Lucky.

I'm running short on time today (surprise, surprise). So I'm posting one of my favorite shots.
Taken with my old point and shoot Minolta DiMAGE X, I saw this photo while taking out the trash in my old place in Montreal. I was quite fortunate that the neighbors did not come home that night as I never saw this opportunity again. Man were my hands cold.

Quarry Safari

I've put together some photos which I took last September at an open house at a nearby quarry.

This is a HUGE conveyor belt that runs the stones out onto a special transport ship.

Here is where the ship docks.

Dramatic shadows always go well with industrial scenery. Maybe its possible to tell what time it is by the angle of the shadows if you get your handy protractor.

I really wish I had a lot of wall space and a sweet, sweet printer for panoramas. I would love to print this out after fine tuning it in Photoshop.

A kinda eerie photo.... perhaps because the subject is facing away and the frame is dominated by cold shapes.

There were tons of kids ruinning around and freaking out about the huge vehicles. They were rather funny.

and at long last, my favorite shot of the session.

All things shiny.

Reflections are a favorite photographic subject of mine. I believe they tie into my love of abstract photography. Cutting anymore blabbing about reflections short I will hop straight to the photos.

This was taken during the painting of my Dad's MGB. The image would not be nearly as interesting without the partial reflections that got mixed in because of the pane of glass between us.

This was taken on a pasta-making break during a study binge. Reflections like the one above alter perspective so much that photos including them require much more thought and therefore, they become more enjoyable to view. (At least that's what I think, without revising sentences.)

I repeat, reflections assist with abstractism. Anybody have any difficulty realizing what this shot is?

I like this self-portrait because my old Minolta turned into a Gothic cross. If you live in Quebec you probably can tell that I took this in the side of a La Belle Provience restaurant.

Weekend in T.O.

Having spent the weekend in 'the big smoke' I will post some city picts from the trip.

traveling gives so many opportunities to take pictures, so I was rather upset at the "colder then most of this winter" weather. I only took a couple dozen shots and kinda felt bad for exposing my camera to such low temps. Here is a familiar tower. I'm getting more comfortable with my polarizer, which is good fun with clouds.

On the left is a shot around,.. well... I forget actually. I know it is south of UofT and north of Queen St and east of Spadina, so there you go. I liked the mosaic effect of the TTC lines... it's kinda subtle.

I spent a couple hours sitting in cafes and people watching (one of my favorite things to do). While sitting I got to play with my camera settings and take a bunch of monochromatic picts. I also drank a lot of Bavarian Dutch Chocolate coffee!
